I know there is an obesity epidemic in our country and I know that the government is trying to do the right thing by making our schools healthier. But taking away Pizza Day. Not cool man.
School Boards across the province are pressuring schools to do away with "Pizza Day" as a fundraiser and find a healthier alternative. Also, the School Boards are citing growing allergy concerns with students as a reason to stop using pizza as a way to raise funds.
I get it. Some kids can't eat pizza. And, yes, some kids shouldn't eat pizza. But let's be honest here. How many parents are going to give their kids 5 bucks to bring to school for "Cobb Salad Day"? Leave it to the School Boards to suck the FUN out of FUNdraising!
Most schools won't allow any kind of peanut products in their buildings anymore. Boo. Physical Education time is at an all-time low because of a lack of funds. And more and more, students (and their parents) are being asked to do their best Ricky Ross (Glengarry Glen Ross) and "Always Be Closing" so they can take a field trip to the zoo. Shouldn't we make it as fun as possible.
And how about this for an idea. Instead of banning "Pizza Day" because some kids have gluten allergy, why not order a couple of gluten free pizzas so the kids that don't feel too cool most of the time because of the Epy pen holstered to their hip, feel cool, if just for the lunch hour.
There are ways of including some without excluding everyone else. And, you don't have to think to far outside the box to find the solutions.
I'll take the slice with pepperoni, mushrooms and bacon bits. Thanks.
