Organ donation... A selfless heroic act.

I got a call this week that I never expected to get. My best friend's Dad, My second Dad, had gotten a kidney transplant over the weekend and everything was going well. The real shock was that at age 66, no one realized that he was on a list to receive a new kidney. But fortune smiled on him and he got a call to make his way to London ON, and be ready for surgery and a new lease on life. Needless to say, my buddy and his entire family are over the moon at the prospect of Dad ditching the dialysis and living every day as a gift.

Of course, with most transplants, comes a story of personal tragedy. A family has lost a loved one and through the grieving process, arrange for healthy organs to be harvested and donated to people who will live a longer life. But that family can't begin that process unless the individual involved has given their consent.

Please consider being an organ donor. And, when you make that very important decision, let your family know that you’ve decided to help save lives in the event of tragedy.

Also make sure you register with the website beadonor.ca. As a resident of Ontario, it is the best way to ensure your final wishes are respected.

Thank you.
